November 5, 1999, BurnabyR006500700072esentatives of more than 7000 unionized university workers, all members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will descend upon the offices of senior administrators in each university this morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Connie Credico, CUPE national servicing representative and co-ordinator for university bargaining said, “University administrators have to use their influence to get the provincial government to set the agenda for negotiating important accords that will be necessary to bring about settlements in this sector.”

Credico says, “These members are fed up and today’s action is another example of that frustration. But the time is near when more serious levels of action will have to be considered.”

Universities have been in mediation for some time. UBC and UVIC have no further mediation dates scheduled.

“Clearly,” says Credico, ” In those two universities there isn’t much left to be achieved through this mediation process.”
