EDMONTON – The Canadian Union of Public Employees will be holding information picket lines in front of a number of Extendicare sites around the province tomorrow.

CUPE Alberta President D’Arcy Lanovaz says the union is putting up the pickets in response to very slow bargaining with the long term care provider. Lanovaz says CUPE is seeking improvements to staffing levels.

Our members are telling us that senior care is being compromised by the number of vacancies at Extendicare,” said Lanovaz. “We are trying to negotiate provisions that will assist in recruiting higher numbers of staff.”

Unfortunately, it seems like Extendicare is more interested in its bottom line than in better resident care.”
