First in a series of short videos on some of the myths we hear too often on the public health care system.

Myth: Medicare is unsustainable, costs are completely out of control.

Fact: Overall public health care spending in Canada has been pretty much stable for the last 35 years.

It is true, however, that some costs are rising more quickly than others. But which ones?

This video explores these questions with a panel of experts including Bob Woollard, Bob Evans, Damien Contandriopoulos and Natalie Mehra. Moderated by Erica Johnson, from the CBC. This panel of experts debunks some of the myths surrounding the “crisis” of the Canadian public health care system and the need for further privatization.

Produced by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) on 2011. Excerpts from CUPE’s National Health Care Sector Meeting held in Victoria, British Columbia, in the Fall of 2010.
