PETERBOROUGH, ON – The union representing food service workers at Trent University and Compass Group Canada Ltd. have reached an agreement that provides recognition of the workers’ union and guarantees the continuity of employment terms and conditions worked under the former service provider.

“We’re very pleased that we’ve been able to achieve this resolution with Compass,” said Judie Gates, president of Local 3205 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

“Compass has agreed to honour the employment terms and conditions that our members rely on and we can begin to build good labour relations with our new employer.”

On Monday, April 28, members of CUPE Local 3205 voted to ratify the agreement with Compass.

CUPE members and Compass look forward to working together to ensure a smooth transition at Trent for the food service provider.

Gates also thanked CUPE’s supporters among the Trent community: fellow CUPE Local 3908, representing Trent’s contract faculty; Trent Union Faculty Association; Trent Central Student Association; and the Seasoned Spoon campus cooperative restaurant.

“They played a crucial role in helping us to reach this deal,” she said.
