CUPE is offering our seventh training session for union pension fund trustees and pension plan advisory committee members. For the first time, we are offering training that meets the specific needs of committee members for defined contribution plans.

This is an invaluable training for those new to the job of pension trustee. Experienced trustees will also benefit from the participatory, hands-on approach of this workshop to deepen their understanding of key issues.

Dates

March 27 to April 1: Trustees and advisory committee members in defined benefit (DB) plans

March 27 to March 29: Trustees and advisory committee members in defined contribution (DC) plans

Training session will start at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 27

Location

The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver in Vancouver, B.C.

What you’ll learn

For trustees and advisory committee members in DB plans:

  • Fiduciary duty
  • Assessing funding options
  • Understanding valuable reports
  • Assessing investment options


For committee members in DC plans:

  • Your role as a committee member
  • Member education about their pension plan
  • Understanding investment reports
  • Assessing investment options


If you are interested in taking part of this training session, please fill out the attached application form and send it no later than February 16, 2011.

Participants are encouraged to ask their Pension Plan to sponsor their participation in this training session. For more information, see A Guide to Getting Your Pension Fund to Cover the Cost attached.

Registration fee for the session is $750.00. Make cheque payable to: Canadian Union of Public Employees, Pension Trustee Training.

The fee includes workshop materials, daily breakfast, lunch and refreshments at morning and afternoon breaks. The fee does not cover lost wages (where applicable) to attend the session, travel costs, accommodation or dinner costs.
