Medicare Works! Keep it public! Paul Moist to take part in town hall meeting

CALGARY – A panel discussion on strengthening our public health care system and fending off commercial attacks.

Date: Wednesday, November 1st
Time: 7:00 pm
Place: Unitarian Church of Calgary 1703-1st Street NW

With Guest Speakers: Michael McBane, Paul Moist, Diana Gibson and Dr. Avalon Roberts

  • Michael McBane is National Coordinator of the Canadian Health Coalition. He is also the author of “Ill-Health Canada: Putting food and drug company profits ahead of safety”.
  • Paul Moist is the National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees
  • Diana Gibson is Director of Research at the University of Alberta’s Parkland Institute. She is also the co-author of “The Bottom Line: The truth behind private health insurance in Canada”.
  • Dr. Avalon Roberts chairs Friends of Medicare provincial board of directors as well as the Calgary chapter. She has a medical practice in psychiatry.

Public health care is Canadians’ proudest achievement. We embrace it as a social right in Canada, one that speaks to our best values of fairness, pragmatism, inclusion and hope. There is no other social program or national initiative that we identify with so passionately, but it is being weakened by corporate forces and complicit governments.

Join us as we stand up to propose alternatives such as a national pharmacare plan and homecare. Join us as we re-double our efforts to oppose further privatization through the growth of private insurance, private clinics or other for-profit forces. Join us as we advocate innovation and improvement within the public system.

And during the week of November 13-18, call or meet with your Member of Parliament during National Medicare Week. Make your voice heard! (If you don’t know who your MP is, call 1-800-O-Canada to find out or visit www.parl.gc.ca)
