Windsor, N.S. – Contract talks between the Municipality of the District of West Hants and the union representing its outside workers have broken off.

Canadian Union of Public Employees National Representative John Evans says, “The members of Local 4522 have now had seven bargaining sessions and been unable to reach an agreement. We are down to one issue that’s preventing us from doing that.

As a result, the union has asked the Department of Labour to appoint a Conciliation Officer.”

Evans says the outstanding issue relates to how they are paid when they perform on-call duties on a statutory holiday, or 11 days in a year. This could easily be resolved with some cooperation from the employer.

And we’re only talking about five employees, so it’s not like it’s going to break the bank or anything,” says Evans.
