CUPE is fighting plans for a P3 wastewater facility in Taber, AB. CUPE 2038 president Rylee Farough sounded the alarm in a letter printed in the Taber Times newspaper.

The town is calling the scheme “Alternative Service Delivery”, and the mayor’s spinning it as ‘considering all options’ and ‘thinking outside the box’. He told the media that in addition to considering a P3 to design, build and operate a new wastewater treatment plant, he was also looking at privatizing the operation of the town’s water treatment plant, distribution system and storm water system.

The mayor should heed the warning that closes Farough’s letter:

There’s another adage we might consider, “If it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.”Our water is far too precious a resource to be gambling with. Let’s get it right!”
