Picket lines went up March 2 at McMaster University in Hamilton as members of the McMaster University Staff Association walked off the job to support their demands for a first contract.
The newly certified, independent union has been negotiating for improved wages and benefits and recognition of seniority.
CUPE Local 3906, representing teaching and research assistants at the university, has pledged its support to MUSA. Theyre also sharing their experience from a successful four-week strike late in 1999.
Messages of support can be faxed to the MUSA strike headquarters at (905) 525-3609 or sent through the unions web site at www.mcmaster.ca/musa/.
