The union negotiating on behalf of support staff at Cape Breton University (CBU) has been unable to reach a deal with the employer and has applied for conciliation. The eighty members of CUPE Local 3131 have been without a contract since April 1, 2013.

CUPE National Representative Kathy MacLeod says, “We have been unable to reach an agreement with the employer on the issue of job security. Our members  have serious concerns about the possible contracting out  of their jobs.”

The employees in this bargaining unit include bookstore, mailroom and print shop clerks, IT and library techs and assistants, finance clerks and administrative secretaries.
