Team Maria tops $15,000 in pledges for annual Parkinson’s walk

VANCOUVER—CUPE 825 president Maria Wahl and her family set a new record in pledges at the annual SuperWalk for Parkinson’s at Stanley Park on Sunday (September 7), taking in $15,285.

Team Maria, comprised of Wahl, her partner Garvin, her daughter-in-law and grandchildren, jogged the last mile together on the Stanley Park seawall — a memory, says Wahl, that she “will keep forever”.

In the five years since her diagnosis, Wahl has raised $49,000.

“Garvin and I deeply appreciate your support and believe your contributions will make a difference in my life as well as the 100,000 Canadians that suffer from Parkinson’s,” Wahl said in a message to CUPE members.

“Thank you for staying in this battle with me.”
