(Toronto) Striking Boys Home employees and community supporters will hold an information picket and rally outside the offices of Borden and Elliot on Thursday, February 24th, at 4:00 p.m. Three members of the Boys Home Board of Directors, including Chairperson Joanne Foot, are associates at the high profile Toronto law firm.

News and photo opportunity
Guest speakers will include former Community and Social Services Minister Zanana Akande, and CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan. A 20-foot banner “THE BOYS HOME IS A BAD BOSS” will be the backdrop.

Eighty workers at the home, offering residential, counselling and education programs to the Citys distressed youth, including young offenders and children in the care of Childrens Aid Societies, have been on strike since January 14th. These workers have not had an increase since 1992. They took a 3% pay cut in 1997, and now their employer wants them to sign a contract with a further wage freeze until 2002. They are also fighting harassment and discrimination in the workplace. The workers are members of CUPE Local 3501.
