MEDIA ADVISORY

(Toronto) A strike which began five months ago at Canadas oldest day care will be the focus of an information picket and rally in front of Toronto City Hall tomorrow morning (November 30, 8:00 a.m.)

Twenty-five members of CUPE Local 2563 have been on strike since June 29, after their employer pulled the plug on their pension plan.

They are calling on the new city council, and Mayor Mel Lastman in particular, to intervene in the dispute. Most of the 80 day care spaces at Victoria Day Care are subsidized and, as a result, funded by the city.

(ASSIGNMENT EDITORS/PHOTO EDITORS: The strikers and their supporters will be leafleting in front of Toronto City Hall, main entrance, starting at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30. The rally with guest speakers will begin at 9:30 a.m.)
