(Toronto) - Brian OKeefe, Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will join striking Madison Avenue Housing and Support workers tomorrow outside the workplace of Barbara Kraker, President of the Board of Directors, to demand accountability as the strike enters week twelve.

The information picket takes place at the Insurance Bureau of Canada (workplace of Board President Barbara Kraker), 240 Duncan Mill Road., north of York Mills Rd. and west of Don Mills Rd. at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, September 20th. The president of the Board has ignored a growing crisis at Madison for 2 years, says Joanne Martin, CUPE National Representative. She appears unaware of the issues affecting the agencies vulnerable mental health clients and refuses to speak to the union even after a 12 week strike.

Fourteen members of CUPE Local 3798 went on strike July 4th. The employer is demanding a long list of concessions, including an attack on regular hours of work. Madison Avenue Housing offers supportive housing and counseling services to consumer survivors of the mental health system.
