SUDBURY Greater Sudbury Hydro workers on strike since June 19th will gather at Tom Davies Square tomorrow, Thursday, June 24, for an information picket outside Municipal Council, at 6:00 p.m.

In many ways Council is responsible for this strike, says CUPE 4705 president Wyman MacKinnon, representing the 85 strikers. In the last municipal budget Council decided to nearly double the dividends it requires from Greater Sudbury Hydro Plus Inc., from 2.8 million dollars to 4 million. The utility is trying to squeeze that money out of workers, and thats why were taking our protest to City Hall tomorrow.

Hydros board is also appointed by Council and several councillors sit on the board.

The union is fighting employer demands for concessions, including the elimination of benefits for retired workers and weakened protection against contracting out and technological change.
