Child care workers at Canadas oldest child care centre, whove now been on strike for five months, took their message to the front steps of Toronto City Hall last week.

The 25 members of CUPE Local 2563, employed by Victoria Day Care, held an information picket and rally at Nathan Phillips Square. They are calling on Mayor Mel Lastman and the new city council to intervene in the dispute. Most of the 80 day care spaces at Victoria Day Care are subsidized and, as a result, funded by the city.

Their strike began June 29, after their employer pulled the plug on their pension plan.

To send financial support and/or messages of support to these workers, call VP Diane Dobusz at (416) 449-4999.
