(Niagara-on-the-Lake) - The Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are launching a province-wide public information campaign entitled Stepping Up for Child Care, right here in Niagara.

A series of public forums designed to inform Ontarians about the looming crisis in affordable child care will criss-cross the province, and run through to the end of April.

The first forum is being held in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Monday, January 22nd from

7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Niagara Nursery School, 430 King St. Monday nights forum is being sponsored by the Niagara Branch of the Association of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario.

A forum panel will include:

  • Laura Fevez and Marnie McLean, two local parents who will share their child care experiences

  • Susan Sperling, Public Education Co-ordinator with the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care

  • Shellie Bird, CUPE Local 2204 (child care workers)

  • George Bailey, Region of Niagara Councillor from Niagara Falls
