SYDENHAM, Ont. Municipal workers in the Township of South Frontenac, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), reached a tentative agreement with their employer last night, averting a potential strike.

We are relieved we were able to reach an agreement before the strike deadline, said Trevor Greene, president of CUPE Local 4336. We will be recommending this deal to our membership.

The 33 full-time and part-time inside and outside municipal workers include public works staff and administration staff. Their last contract expired March 31st, 2004. Details of the agreement will not be available until after ratification by the union and the employer. The union will hold ratification votes on Monday, March 7th.
