Sherbrooke, Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at 10 p.m. – The labour dispute at the Sherbrooke Socit de transport (STS) could be settled over the weekend. The bus drivers have been called to a special general meeting of their union on Sunday during which “a new bargaining structure” will be presented.
This announcement is the outcome of intensive talks which took place from noon on Sunday until early Wednesday evening, in the presence of the conciliator, Jean-Pierre Gosselin. At the conciliator’s request, the parties for the employer and the union have agreed to withhold their comments on the content of this new bargaining structure until after the union’s general meeting.
In addition to some 115 drivers with the STS represented by Local 3434, CUPE represents 6,500 members in urban transportation in Qub0065c and is also active in 10 other sectors including universities, communications, education, the municipalities, air transportation, health and social services. With close to 100,000 members in Qub0065c, it is the largest FTQ affiliate.
