In Alberta, there is a serious threat to the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP). The provincial government is trying to reduce benefits, manufacturing a phony “crisis” to justify cutbacks.

CUPE and other unions are fighting back.

The LAPP has begun discussions to reduce benefits arguing that the plan needs changes to be sustainable. It is CUPE’s position that the plan is sustainable, and a reduction in benefits (compromising the ability of retirees to live with dignity), is not necessary.

Send a message to LAPP and your MLA - Hands off our pension!

CUPE Alberta members participating in LAPP can support the work of CUPE and the Labour Coalition on Pensions by sending a message to LAPP and Alberta MLA’s.

Choose one of these three messages:

  • I am writing to express my urgent concern about changes being considered to the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) and the impact this could have on LAPP members. Send your message now.

  • My concerns include changes that would result in reductions in indexing and changes to the early retirement provisions. These would seriously affect retirement security for many CUPE members and Alberta workers. Send your message now.

  • I do not support extending the normal age of retirement to 67 as this would seriously and adversely affect many older workers. I believe that LAPP’s normal retirement age should remain 65. Send your message now.
