Three transportation technicians who plan and ensure bus routing and transportation services at Student Transportation Serivces Nipissing Parry Sound, members of Local 1165-6, walked off the job September 19th, to fight concession demands by their employer. “This employer wants to unilaterally change hours of work, and is demanding a two-tier sick leave and gratuity plan that will hurt new hires,” said Michelle Loiselle, CUPE National Representative. “The three women who went on strike today to defend their contract are really standing up for future employees and it’s a fight they intend to win.” The workers are employed by a consortium serving four school boards in the area, including the Near North District School Board, the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board, the Conseil scolaire de district du Nord-Est de l’Ontario, and the Conseil scolaire Franco-Nord.
