WINNIPEG – Support staff in the Sunrise School Division voted on Saturday to accept a new Collective Agreement.

The Agreement ends three years of negotiations that almost led to strike action.

Wages will increase annually and there will be a harmonization of some salaries within the Division for the members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The new Agreement also includes uniforms for bus drivers, custodians and maintenance staff, and a longer sick leave provision.

It was a very tough round of negotiations, and we have an Agreement we can live with. But there are still many unresolved issues that we have to work on,” said Anne Marie Roy, President of Local 1618.

The employer has not dealt with some of the changes affecting our members that resulted from the school division merger.”

The members of CUPE Local 1618 who are Education Assistants, Custodians, Maintenance Staff and Bus Drivers for the Division have been without a contract since January of 2004.
