Hamilton Organizers of the Save Chedoke campaign will bring the signatures of thousands of Hamiltonians to the Hamilton Health Sciences board on Thursday, December 19, 2002.

We have talked to thousands of people who are shocked that HHS plans to shut down the programs at Chedoke, said Mary Lewis, a member of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4800, which has organized the community campaign. They understand that a healthy community needs more than acute care.

A deputation from Save Chedoke will meet with the HHS board at 3:00 p.m. in the boardroom at the Henderson Hospital.

People can’t believe HHS is moving ahead so quickly with these cuts at the same time as changes to health care, including more funding, are looming on the horizon after Romanow, said Ralph Dolmer, who is co-ordinating the campaign with Lewis. The Moreland Treatment Centre for addictions has already closed its doors.

Our community needs these programs.
