The Qub0065c government took a decisive step toward ending discrimination against lesbians and gays April 25 when it introduced legislation to legally recognize same sex spouses.

CUPE Qub0065c’s Pink Triangle Committee has been very active in support of this bill, playing a leadership role within the Qub0065c Coalition for the Recognition of Same Sex Spouses.

The action is very positive and we’re very excited,” says Jean-Pierre Leclerc, who has been directly involved in the lobby efforts and serves as a member of the CUPE National Pink Triangle Committee. “We’re doing everything we can to ensure the civil union legislation is one of the best statutes in the world on marriage and parental rights for gays and lesbians.”

If this bill is adopted, Qub0065c will become the second society in the world, after Holland, in which gays, lesbians and their families will have acquired such rights.
