Quebec City hospital scraps P3 plans

The board of Quebec City’s Hôtel-Dieu has voted to keep a major renovation and expansion project public, abandoning a risky privatization scheme.

A hospital spokesperson told the media that a P3 would add unnecessary delays to the project.

The decision comes on the heels of a damning provincial auditor’s report on two Montreal hospital P3 projects.

Workers at the hospital, members of CUPE 1108, have argued from the start that a P3 would impose lengthy delays and higher costs on the hospital modernization project.

The Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec’s board is now waiting for Infrastructure Québec – the government department replacing the province’s failed P3 agency – to make its final recommendation on the project’s funding and delivery to the provincial health minister.
