Princeton library workers voted unanimously July 25 to become members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The five library workers at the Princeton branch of the Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) will be the newest members of CUPE Local 1123.

CUPE 1123 already represents library workers at 16 of the 29 branches of the ORL which is why the president of the local, Rose Jurkic, says their newest members are a “natural fit”.

CUPE 1123 welcomes these new members to our growing local,” says Jurkic, “CUPE is the union of choice for library workers in B.C. and we look forward to continuing to fight for fairness and respect for library workers throughout the Okanagan.”

CUPE is B.C.’s largest union with more than 85,000 members in a variety of sectors including municipalities, education, libraries, universities, colleges, social services, health care, public utilities, transportation, emergency services and airlines.

CUPE 1123 now represents over 155 front-line library workers at 17 ORL branches throughout the Okanagan.
