Four years ago I was in Vancouver for the night of the U.S. election as I am tonight, attending our biennial Hospital Employees Union (HEU) convention.

Today, as was the case in 2008, I am hopeful, optimistic and relieved at the re-election of Barack Obama as President of the United States.

There were hints of the Obama of four years ago in last night acceptance speech. The call for unity, and for the common goal of peace around the globe and jobs for all Americans.

America remains a badly divided nation in political and other terms, but Obama deserved a second term, and those of us outside of the US wish him well.

Yours Truly
