Speaking at a public meeting opposing a P3 hospital in Brampton, CUPE National President Judy Darcy called on the Ontario government to avoid another costly and dangerous mistake.

The government has no mandate to privatize this communitys hospital just as they had no right to privatize Hydro One, says Darcy. Theyre so desperate to turn essential public services into money machines for Bay Street, theyre trampling the rights of Ontario residents.

The experience in Britain has been clear, warns Darcy. Just like they ignored the California disaster with Hydro privatization, this government is blindly forging ahead with private hospitals when they know its proven very costly in Britain.

Brampton needs a new hospital with its growing population, adds Darcy. But it should be financed and operated publicly.
