CUPE continues to lead the way in membership growth in the Canadian labour movement.

The most recent reports from Human Resources Development Canada show that CUPE’s membership has increased by 20,000 over this past year to 505,000. In this same time period, half of all the other major trade unions have lost members or their membership has stayed the same.

National President Judy Darcy credits activists and staff with the continued strong growth in membership. “There’s no question that if you’re looking for a union that’s taking on the key concerns of workers today, it’s CUPE,” she says.

Day in and day out we’re fighting the battle to protect jobs and public services and improve wages and working conditions – and we’re winning.”
