CUPE 145, representing workers at Osler Health Sciences, has fought off a move to decertify by a resounding 477 to 79 votes. CUPE learned of the move to decertify on July 3, seven days before a vote was to occur. A team of local leaders and national staff was pulled together quickly to blitz the members with newsletters and personal meetings.

As always, a vote like this cannot succeed without a major commitment from members of the local. Once the direction was set, CUPE members radiated enthusiasm in all the information meetings and throughout the weekend as they spoke with their brothers and sisters.

Given the vote occurred at the peak of summer holiday season, the turnout was exemplary and a majority of 86 per cent. Outstanding!
