Dear Mr. Weston,

I am writing to you on behalf of 35,000 CUPE members to ask you to come to a respectful settlement with your 8,500 Alberta Superstore employees.

I am aware of the main issues at the bargaining table, and I am discouraged to learn that you are asking for deep wage cuts in a workforce already living on very modest incomes.  Furthermore, I know many of your employees would like to work more hours, but are denied full time employment.

The optics of this potential dispute do not look good for you.  To force employees onto a picket line because they want to work harder to support their families is unfathomable to most Albertans.  We pride ourselves on our work ethic, and our sense of fairness.  Your employees are not being treated fairly.

I assure you that if your employees are forced to picket, they will have the support of CUPE.  We will encourage our members to walk the lines with your employees, we will educate our members on the issues of the strike, and we will ask our members to shop elsewhere.

As you are aware, there are plenty of other options for consumers to choose from.

 Sincerely,

Marle Roberts, President
CUPE Alberta
