Pembroke, ON – Friday, August 10 would have marked the third month of a strike between the County of Renfrew and its Ontario Works staff, but after ratification of the agreement by the County at a special meeting August 8, members are now back at work providing services.
“Its been a difficult summer, but more than anything, we are thrilled to be back at work delivering services to Renfrew County residents, says CUPE 4989 President Ghyslaine Turgeon. We stood strong for three long months and now it’s time to get back to helping those who rely on us each and every day.”
Highlights of the five-year agreement include a wage increase with most benefits remaining for 2012 with changes being implemented through the life of the agreement.
“We’d like to thank the community for standing behind us and for all the support we received throughout the strike,” added Turgeon.
