Toronto - The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) will be the target of a mass picket and rally this afternoon, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (January 19).

The Solidarity Rally is being held by CUPE Local 3907, which represents 180 Graduate Assistants (GAs) at OISE. They could be joining 2,400 striking TAs at the University as early as this Friday (January 21).

Local 3907 members will set up an information picket at the main entrance to OISE, at 252 Bloor St. West. Theyll be joined by striking members of Local 3902. There will be speakers throughout the afternoon.

The GAs met in mediation on Monday, January 17, and have reached an impasse in bargaining. Their issues are very similar to those of the striking TAs. They include:

  • A living wage
  • Secure funding of programs
  • More research positions at OISE
