(Halifax) Nursing home workers at The Birches in Musquodobit have ratified a new three-year deal. Members of CUPE Local 3199 voted yesterday on the deal.

Among the items employees were able to negotiate were:

  • Vacation benefits for part-time employees;
  • Overtime language;
  • Changes in language in bereavement and sick leave
This is in addition to all of the provincial issues bargained at the lead table for CUPE at Queen’s Manor.

CUPE National Rep. Barb Kowalski says, Both the employer and the union were very serious in their attempt to reach an agreement. Many of the changes to the agreement are positive not only for the employees but also for the employer.

Local 3199 represents personal care workers, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance workers at The Birches.
