NEW GLASGOW, NS – Vocational workers employed by Summer Street Industries in New Glasgow have given their union a strong strike mandate.

Yesterday, members of CUPE Local 2330 voted 90 per cent in favour of strike action.

CUPE National Representative Wayne Thomas says, “These workers have been trying to conclude a first collective agreement with this employer for over 18 months. The result of yesterday’s vote leaves no doubt regarding the level of frustration they’re feeling.”

Local 2330 President Nan McFadgen says, “Hopefully this will motivate Summer Street Industries to negotiate a fair Collective Agreement that doesn’t force concessions on its employees. The last thing we want is a disruption of Summer Street’s vocational and catering services to the residents of Pictou County.”
