PEACE RIVER - Seventeen employees of social services agency WJ Stemaschuk now have the benefit of a union contract.

The employees, members of CUPE Local 1031, yesterday ratified a contract bringing them in line with other unionized employees across the province.

These employees chose CUPE because they believed a union contract would give them better wages, benefits, and working conditions, said Union Representative Doug Luellman. And thats exactly what happened.

Luellman says the new contract provides sick leave, bereavement leave, medical benefits, and harassment protection.
