Qub0065c City, Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - The Qub0065c Labour Relations Board has certified a trade union for the employees of the cole nationale d’administration publique (NAP) (National School of Public Administration) - technicians, office, trade and service personnel. The new union members will be represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE-FTQ). Most of NAP’s 55 support employees are employed in Qub0065c City, while others work in Montra006c, Gatineau and Saguenay.

Lise Gauvreau, a CUPE organizing representative, stated it had been a “whirlwind campaign carried out last fall,” and that “NAP’s personnel would be joining other university support employees, almost all of whom are CUPE members.”

CUPE has some 6,000 members in the universities, most of whom are support staff. CUPE is also active in several other sectors such as communications, municipalities, health and social services, hydroelectricity, urban and air transportation, provincial corporations and public organizations. With close to 100, 000 members, CUPE is also the largest FTQ affiliate.

NAP, a branch of Universit 0064u Qub0065c, offers full or part-time graduate and postgraduate university programs in Qub0065c City and Montra006c and, with certain restrictions, at three other campuses in Gatineau, Trois-Rivir0065s and Saguenay. NAP’s head office is located in the Saint-Roch area in Qub0065c City and counts some 1,400 students.
