Eight months into its fiscal year, the National Action Committee on the Status of Women still hasn’t received any funding from its main source: the federal government.

As a result, NAC may close its offices, seriously damaging its capacity to represent Canadian women.

“It has become very clear that this government condones penalty for those who protest,” said Joan Grant-Cummings, president of NAC, in denouncing the government-imposed funding crisis. “NAC is at the forefront, struggling for women’s equality in Canada and now the Liberals want to shut us down.”

NAC’s situation is critical. Act now by faxing Prime Minister Jean Chretien at (613) 941-6900; Finance Minister Paul Martin at (613) 992-4291; Status of Women Minister Hedy Fry at (613) 995-0056; Heritage Minister Sheila Copps at (613) 992-2727.
