Town of Whitby municipal workers reached a tentative agreement with their employer late Friday, April 20, averting a strike that would have affected important public services, says the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing 254 inside and outside front line workers.

We are very pleased that we reached a deal and averted a strike,” said Karen Wilson, president of CUPE 53. “Our members will continue to provide the important public services that our residents and communities rely on.”

Details of the agreement will not be released until it is presented to CUPE 53 members in a ratification vote next week.
