CUPE members can — and do — play an important role in helping First Nations face the challenge of rebuilding societies that have been excluded and impoverished, guest speaker Michèle Rouleau told delegates yesterday.

Rouleau, a Metis television host and producer who has fought for aboriginal rights for more than 25 years, addressed the need for Native and non-Native people to work together. She also praised the work done by CUPE: “Your actions and your support demonstrate your commitment to the rights of First Nations across the country.

“We need housing, adequate infrastructure, access to drinking water, more health and social service resources. Together we can ensure a better tomorrow for future generations, and possibly change the course of history. ”
