Nursing Week — May 10-16
Nurses Week — May 9-15 (Quebec)

Congratulations to all CUPE Nurses

Sisters and Brothers:

This time leading up to National Nursing Week is a perfect chance for me to write to all CUPE nurses to acknowledge your contribution, hard work and dedication to our healthcare system and to your communities. CUPE nurses play a vital role in the health care system. You deserve praise and respect for your accomplishments over this past year and throughout your career. CUPE has advocated for appropriate compensation, dignity, safe working conditions and professional practice development for all nurses, as an independent voice, since 1963. And we will continue to do so!

Nurse achievements

Whether you work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home care, community clinics, or another setting - you deliver high-quality and professional nursing care. From birth to death, patients are cared for by nurses. You are the “heart” of the Canadian healthcare system – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You work everywhere within the public healthcare system, including teaching hospitals, emergency rooms and surgery units. You do everything from administering medications, to initiating therapy and treatments, to processing doctors’ orders, to performing assessments and much more. As nurses, you are dedicated, caring and of immense value. You collaborate within the healthcare team to make public health care better for all of us.

CUPE and Nurses

CUPE is proud to represent nurses throughout Canada, including tens of thousands of Registered and Licensed Practical nurses. Through bargaining and lobbying campaigns, we strive to create safe, professional working conditions where nurse competencies are fully utilized. CUPE is also committed to increasing awareness among the general public about the valuable role that nurses play in the Canadian healthcare system.

So, once again, Happy National Nursing Week and thank you for your great work!

In solidarity,

PAUL MOIST
National President
