McMaster TAs removed their picket lines for two hours on December 6 so that members and others could mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic events in Montra006c.

Pickets were set up December 3 at the entrance to the university in Hamilton, Ontario as 1250 teaching assistants took strike action in support of a new contract.

Members of CUPE 3906 resoundingly rejected a final offer vote that had been forced on them by the university administration. The teaching assistants have been demanding a decent wage increase, some form of tuition rebate and improved benefits.

Local 3906 spokesperson Mike Skinner said, “given that our union was instrumental in lobbying the federal government to make December 6th a national Day of Remembrance, it was only fitting that we do this. Our members also felt very strongly that we do something to commemorate the victims on this important day.”
