Ottawa - Flight attendants will bring their campaign for Employment Insurance Fairness to the Liberal convention on Thursday, November 13, inviting delegates to display a lapel sticker which reads:

Liberals for EI Fairness for Flight Attendants

Turmoil and uncertainty in the airline industry have left more than 1,000 Canadian flight attendants on lay-off. To compound the crisis, access to Employment Insurance for flight attendants has recently been severely restricted.

Pilots working under very similar pay systems are entitled to far easier access to full EI benefits, something being denied to mostly-female flight attendants.

Were certain the Liberal Partys commitment to equality wont stand for groups of men and women who work in essentially the same conditions to be treated differently, denying women benefits men receive, says Terry Twentyman, President of CUPE Airline Division.

The flight attendants plan to greet delegates as they arrive for the meeting of the Liberal Womens Commission Thursday morning. Later in the morning and over the lunch hour, the flight attendants will hold a briefing session as well as greeting delegates once again in front of the convention centre.
