Veteran CUPE Nova Scotia Staff Representative and activist Barb Kowalski has been posthumously awarded that province’s Sister of the Year Award. Kowalski died in February 2005 of cancer. She was 59.

Kowalski’s daughter, Andrea Curry, was on hand to receive the award at the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour’s annual convention in Dartmouth last week.

Before becoming a CUPE representative, Kowalski was the president of her local, Cape Breton Regional Municipality inside workers, for 18 years.
