(St. Catharines) - Striking mental health workers with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Niagara South Branch) will be joined for a rally tomorrow by MPP Peter Kormos and a representative from CUPE National, Social Services Co-ordinator Ian Thompson.

The 16 workers, members of CUPE local 1287, went on strike September 13 over a first contract and employer demands for concessions,

CUPE has sent letters to the CMHA regional office in Toronto and national office in Ottawa, asking why financial statements for 1998 and 1999 show an excess of income funds for the Niagara South Branch monies that were apparently sent back to agency funders.

CUPE has also requested the Niagara South Branchs financial statements for 2000.

(ASSIGNMENT/PHOTO EDITORS: The rally/demonstration is to be held Thursday, Sept 21 from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Peace Park, Town Square, Fonthill. The CMHA office is directly beside the park.)
