CLC President Ken Georgetti was the keynote speaker at convention today.

Georgetti said the values in our economy are all wrong.  “We are rewarding greed and ignoring need,” he said.  “Our economy is punishing workers who have spent their lives building Canada. Too many of our governments are punishing public sector workers for a private sector economic crisis they had absolutely nothing to do with.

“We need to make them pay at the ballot box,” said Georgetti.  In the past few years the CLC and our labour councils helped elect more than 800 labour-endorsed mayors, city councillors and school board trustees across the country.”

Georgetti called on the federal government to radically improve the Canada Pension Plan, describing it as our country’s largest defined benefit plan covering 93% of working Canadians.

Later delegates debated section three of the strategic directions document, Continuing the struggle.

After that, delegates will elect regional vice-presidents, diversity vice-presidents and national trustees.
