Over 3 million children work in Mexico, forced labour includes children and Mexico is a “source, destination and transit country for persons trafficked for sexual exploitation,” says a new report from the International Trade Union Council.

Released on Feb. 11, the report also states that “many trade unionists experience assault and many are murdered with impunity many.” The report came as the World Trade Organization was reviewing Mexican trade polices.

“Legislation against discrimination is not enforced, and there is a substantial wage gap between men and women,” the report notes. “Disabled and indigenous persons experience discrimination. Sexual harassment in the workplace is a common problem but is not adequately addressed by the government.”
