Bolstered by the Toronto District School Board’s unanimous decision yesterday to reject further budget cuts, parents across the City will keep up the pressure to protect their schools and demand adequate funding from the Province.

Parents will “green” their schools Friday, May 31 with ribbons, signs and other decorations as a show of support for their Trustees for the courageous stand they have taken.

We are all on the same side now. Every Trustee and every school community is turning to Queen’s Park, united in our demand for adequate funding. ” said Cathy Dandy, of the Campaign for Public Education. ” The Trustees have taken a stand… it’s up to the Province now. We won’t rest until they recognize the needs of our schools and students.”

Other parents will be meeting with Tory MPPs, to press them to speak out for more funding for their community schools.

We’ve won the first round… but the fight isn’t over.” We are telling our MPPs tomorrow that we are behind our Trustees 100%. The Ecker budget will be coming soon, and we expect to see enough funding so the Toronto Board can stop the cuts to our programs and services,” added Dandy.
