(Halifax) 700 Instructional Support Staff with the Halifax Regional School Board, members of CUPE Local 108, have ratified a new, three-year deal with the Board.

A majority of employees voted in favour of the deal which include:

  • A guarantee of 312 full-time positions - 275 EPA’s; 35 Library Support Specialists and 2 Student Support Workers. The employers original position was to eliminate all full-time positions.

  • Fighting back an employer demand to move to a 50/50 cost share of the benefit plan, down from the current 80-20 arrangement with the employer paying 80%.

  • New bumping rights for senior, 100% employees. Up to this point, these employees had no bumping rights.

  • Wage increases of 2% each year of the three-year deal, commencing on April 1, 2004 and expiring July 31, 2006.

Local 108 represents 700 Educational Program Assistants (EPAs), Library Staff and Student Support Workers at the HRSB. The members of CUPE Local 108 had been working without a contract since July 31, 2003.
