(Trois-Rivir0065s, May 28, 2001) The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents all the technical and office personnel as well as the professionals employees, employed by the Francheville RCM, announces the conclusion of a new collective agreement for this group. Signing took place on May 24, after having been approved by the sixteen mayors of the towns in this RCM. The new agreement guarantees the employees a financial increase of 9.56%.

The new contract covers 2000 and 2001 and provides retroactive increases of 2.5% for 2000 and 2.5% for 2001. In addition, employees will receive a lump sum payment which represents an additional bonus of 4.56%. “In all, we’re talking about an increase in income of 9.56%, of which over 7% is for 2001 alone,” explained Alain Richard, CUPE representative. For the employees of the Francheville RCM, this is their second collective agreement covering a two-year term.

It should be noted that CUPE represents approximately 70% of all municipal employees in Qub0065c (25,000 members in the sector). With close to 100,000 members in 11 sectors of activity, CUPE is also the QFL’s largest union affiliate.
